A/N : I fancied doing another LOTR drabble, so I used the prompt from a different drabble comm which was ‘return to sender’. Sorry, these seem to have taken a rather gruesome turn!

Aragorn stared down in disgust at the dismembered head that had just landed at his feet in a spray of dark blood.

“What shall we do?” The young guardsman at his side was pale, a tremor in his voice.

The enemy at the gates of Minas Tirith was striving to demoralise the defenders, raining down a mix of severed heads, some from their own forces, but also from those who had not reached the relative safety of the outer wall.

“Our own we keep for decent burial.” Aragorn turned the orc head with his booted foot. “Theirs we send back.”

Ewww! So much blood. That was one thing I loved about the LotR films - they knew how to keep things as dirty. So many adaptations of books aren't grubby enough.
I think you captured the ick, here :)

Yes, their Aragorn really did look like he'd spent a load of time sleeping under hedges and in ditches. My problem with the classic BBC radio adaptation was that he sounded too plummy.
