Becker’s conversational tone belied the air of quiet menace with which he was pointing the barrel of his Mossberg 590 at Ethan Dobrowski’s head.

“Because I know how to survive on this world and you don’t, soldier boy.”

Becker shrugged. “I’ve got a loaded shotgun and you haven’t. Try again…”

“You’ll run out of shells eventually. But I know where there’s an armoury...”

Becker’s eyes narrowed in thought as he weighed up the fugitive’s words.

“All right, sunshine. Let’s get walking.”
