Title : Settling Back In
Author : fredbassett
Fandom : Primeval
Rating : 12
Characters : Lester, Ryan
Disclaimer : Not mine no money made, don’t sue.
Spoilers : S1.6
Summary : Written for Primeval100 Past Challenge 45, The ARC

Ryan stared around, trying to look unimpressed, and failing, in spite of his best intentions.

The place had obviously cost a fortune. Money that, in his opinion would have been better spent on more equipment.

“If you don’t like it, I imagine dead is still an option open to you, Captain,” sniffed Lester.

“I’ll pass on that one if you don’t mind, sir. Tried it and didn’t like it much.” By which he meant the dying. The dead bit itself had been fairly uneventful.

“You’ll find Hart upstairs. Make yourself at home, Captain Ryan. The rest of your men have.”

The beauty of fanfic is you can murder you best-beloved a hundred times over and still have him alive the next time :-)

I'm majorly attached to them, but somehow that doesn't stop me making them suffer, and sometimes killing them; perhaps because of B7. That had a big influence on me. I was only nineteen when the entire crew was blown away in the most shocking and unexpected fashion, and I didn't have the luxury of some of the London fans of knowing what was going to happen. SO it fell on me like an earthquake. And the end of S2 is almost the only time I've felt the same way about anything since then.

What I do think is, if we don't occasionally remember and deal with canon events of this kind, and their aftermath, we may risk devaluing the heroism and the fundamental character-traits that led to what they did (basically, Ryan's utter professionalism and courage and Stephen's love for Nick and sheer bloody-minded guts). Don't get me wrong, I lreally love Denial, and I think it's great we all have a place to go when we don't want to think about what happened to our favourites, but I never entirely forget the canon. Which is perhaps why I slipped up the other week!

Think I need to start a discussion on this somewhere - maybe at [profile] 87_6fm since it's not appropriate for Denial.

Well, I hope there's an explanation behind this one, missy. Although I do like Ryan's thoughts on dying and being dead.

Squee! Great drabble. Poor long-suffering Lester having to deal with all the shagging going on around him.

Hmmm...what about an idea around a Star Wars quote? Something like 'these aren't the dinosaurs you're looking for'. Or 'I thought you'd be taller'. Or *on a roll now here* a drabble consisting of Star Wars quotes. And I'm stopping now before I actually start writing the drabble lol.
