The young hadrosaur lost his footing for the final time in the dangerous waters.
He wasn’t the first to die here and he wouldn’t be the last. Half the herd had yet to cross and the water was still reacting to the heavy rainfall. The river would soon be flooding.
The body drifted down the river before finally coming to rest in the waterlogged sands.
Sediment rapidly covered the carcase, burying it and preserving it at the same time.
The dead creature was soon forgotten and for the next 65 million years, the body would know neither sunlight nor rain.

Date: 2008-08-04 05:13 pm (UTC)I'm just about to start ch 12, and will probably finish the book tonight. It's been a stunning read and I've enjoyed it hugely. I've got a few books recently to rec on the comm, and this is one of them. Must do the recs soon.
Great icon, and brilliant work by B. I was fascinated by his stuff on the documentary about the hadrosaur, which I still have saved on my TV.
